A Look Back at 2021

As 2021 comes to a close, it’s hard not to feel like it was a total blur. Though it may be difficult to realize, we have made it through another year. We’ve also grown so much more than we may realize. So before we look forward, let’s take inventory of some things you may have accomplished, without even knowing. Here’s a go-to checklist to reflect on your professional and personal life progress in 2021…

1. GAVE YOURSELF GRACE

By far the most important point on this list. Being kind to yourself is essential to one’s growth, no matter what stage of life you’re in. Being the “most productive” version of yourself at all times isn’t realistic. Self- compassion or knowing you still like yourself even if you fail creates a space where you feel able to take risks, explore, and be courageous.

2. SET DEADLINES

Whether you’re working from home or in the office, to say we’ve had a lot to adapt to may be an understatement. It’s been mentally and physically exhausting, but you’ve managed to crush professional and personal goals. Whether it's having a presentation ready or having a proper meal in time, you delivered every moment you could. Be proud you gave your all in these difficult times.

3. PRIORITIZED YOUR HEALTH

You tried to not to lose sight of what’s really important–your mental and physical wellbeing. You might’ve experienced loss, anxiety, and massive change during the last year. Prioritizing your health is an incredible accomplishment you should be proud of. Maybe you focused on staying hydrated throughout the day or you distanced yourself from toxic relationships, these are all milestones to celebrate.

4. YOU REACHED OUT

You were reminded of the importance of family and friends. And, you also opened up to new people. Networking is scary but you did it, whether you made it to one of our coffee chats or agonized over endless emails. MWP is excited to have created new bonds with other nonprofit organizations. And we’re proud to announce we’ll be hosting Virtual Iftars during Ramadan 2022. But, don’t forget opening up to others takes patience, so whether you’re in-person or on zoom, be proud you put yourself out there.

5. YOU CHALLENGED YOURSELF

Whether you generated more leads for your company or a personal goal of mine – wrote more code this year, celebrate your progress! For MWP, we beat records in attendance with multiple events reaching full capacity, meaning more of our community is engaging more now than ever before. Beating records can seem intimidating, but for some, the act of having tangible goals can do wonders for your motivation. Be sure to reward yourself for all the strides you’ve made toward bettering yourself this year.

If there are some things you haven’t checked off on this list, that is okay, there’s always next year. Practice self-care any way that you can. To keep crushing it in 2022, make a checklist that reflects your personal goals, what do you want to bring into the new year? What you do you want to leave behind?
